Новый проект рассчитан на американского кранчера, хотя и пишут что результаты и построенные модели можно будет применять для других похожих объектов. Цель проекта - построение оптимальной модели восстановления и поддержания экологического состояния Чесапикского залива.

Computing for Sustainable Water 64 bit Applications Released

Greetings,

We have released the 64 bit versions of the Computing for Sustainable Water. The Beta test went very well and you will notice the 64 bit version of CFSW as 6.12. The 32 bit version will stay at 6.11 as no changes were made to that application.

меняю год в єтом проекте на адекватное кол-во очков в любом другом проекте на ваш вибор!

у меня 3 мощних ядра на кваде і нецелесообразно імі зарабативать бейджік!! Хочу перейті на ХЦЦ/ХФЦЦ

в ідеале нужен очень слабий многоядерний ксеон на несколько дней

Таким темпом я надеюсь достать сапфир дней через 7

думаю дней через 5 можно будет остановить эту ферму - и оно довалдируется само. Чтобы не переусердствовать и оставить задания для других кранчеров

Что то не понял. До последнего апдейта было 25%, сейчас 75%. Чудеса..

Bel, ввиду того что недавно оптимизировали софт, скорость ядра увеличилась в 4-6 раз.

Поэтому переоценили время завершения проекта и по последним данным всех рассчетов осталось на 39 дней на текущий момент

К концу года с такими темпами должны закончить GFAM.

Такими темпами за 15 днів ато й швидше все дорахується.

п.с. HCMD нарахувало вже зайвих 47 днів, валідуються потрохи, тут мабуть теж треба за 50 днів зупиняти буде процес (не так зупиняти як переводити на інші завдання)

осталось досчитать то что в кэшах, и также то что будет не посчитано вовремя, то есть это займет примерно 10 дней, потом 4 дня на рассчето того что не успело вернуться, и может еще 4 дня

To World Community Grid members:

As we conclude the Computing for Sustainable Water project, we want to thank all of you for your generous effort on behalf of the CFSW project.

As we described at our launch, this project involves a very large model of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed in the Eastern United States. This is the largest estuary in the U.S. The Chesapeake Bay, like many estuaries worldwide, is under increasing stress from nutrient run-off from the land surface. The result of this is a degradation of the waters of the Bay with an impact on the environment as well as on the daily activities of the nearly 17 million persons living within the watershed.

President Obama issued an Executive Order in 2009 mandating that action be taken to mitigate the impact of nutrient run-off on the Bay. Many actions have been suggested, but none has been tested in the field on such a large scale. The Computing for Sustainable Water project tests many of these suggested “Best Management Practices” though a simulation model over a 20-year period.

As we examine the results of the CFSW project, we will be able to inform policy-makers and citizens about which of these BMPs offer the best opportunity to reduce the impact of nutrient flow and thus how to achieve the targets set by the President’s Executive Order.

Needless to say, as a result of your efforts, we have an enormous amount of data to now analyze. We will certainly share these results with you and the wider community as quickly as possible. We always intended to use this same simulation approach in other parts of the world with similar challenges. In fact, the UVa Team has visited a number of countries already to explore the opportunity to customize the CFSW simulation model for their regions.

End of the Computing for Sustainable Water project

Thanks to the generous contribution of computing power from our members, the Computing for Sustainable Water project has concluded.


World Community Grid is pleased to announce, that thanks to the generous contribution of computing power from our members, the http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/cfsw/overview.do project has concluded.

The Computing for Sustainable Water project was launched on April 17, 2012. While it was active, World Community Grid members processed over 24 million results which required nearly 4,200 years of computing power. This work would have taken about 90 years of time using the computing resources available to the researchers at the http://www.faculty.virginia.edu/CFSW/. Using World Community Grid, this research was completed in less than 6 months.

The next step for the scientists is to analyze the results of this project. They hope to discover which public policies might affect watershed health, publish these findings and possibly apply them to other important watersheds around the world.

Computing for Sustainable Water Project comes to an end

Almost exactly six months after it was first launched, the http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/cfsw/overview.do has come to a close. The project, run on the http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp, has been studying the effects of human activity on a large watershed, in the hope of gaining deeper insights into what actions can best lead to restoration, health and sustainability of the resource. The specific watershed investigated was the Chesapeake Bay area, which at 64,299 square miles (166,530 square kilometers) is the largest watershed of the Atlantic seaboard of North America. However, the investigators hope to be able to apply that which is learned from this project across the globe to other regions facing challenges of sustainable water.

Despite being an abundant resource, over 1 in 6 of the world’s people currently lack access to clean, safe water. And, the problem is becoming even more critical as the global proportion of people living in dense urban environments rises. A complex set of interrelated forces, including human activities which degrade the quality of available water, makes the problem difficult to address, much less to solve effectively via coordinated policy.

The Chesapeake Bay was an ideal system to study, explain the researchers. Like many estuaries worldwide, it is under increasing stress from nutrient run-off from the land surface. The subsequent degradation of the water quality is not only having a major impact on local ecosystems, but it is also affecting the lives the nearly 17 million people living within the watershed. In 2009, US president, Barack Obama issued an executive order mandating that action be taken to mitigate the impact of nutrient run-off on the bay. Many solutions to the problem have been put forward, but none have been tested in the field on such a large scale. The Computing for Sustainable Water Project tests many of these proposed solutions – or ‘best management practices’ – though a 20-year simulation model.

"We are looking at whether or not various best management practices currently in use by governments will be effective in the long run for reducing the load of nitrogen, phosphorous, and sediment that is reaching the Chesapeake Bay from municipalities and agricultural areas and causing a decline in the health of the Bay,” explains http://www.sys.virginia.edu/people/gpl.html, the lead researcher on the project, in a http://www.virginia.edu/ video.“We hope that what we learn can not only help restore the health of the Bay, but also sustain it for future generations," he adds.



The model run on the WCG was actually based on a participatory simulation game created by the researchers three years earlier. The game, simply called ‘http://www.virginia.edu/baygame/’, was launched to coincide with http://www.earthday.org/campaign/earth-day-2009-green-generation%E2%84%A2 and incorporates both natural elements and human activity. Originally, players could adopt the roles of crop farmers, land developers, watermen, and assorted regulators. However, the game has been updated several times since its initial release to add more roles, as well as to improve graphics and realism.

The game primarily functions as a learning platform for conveying the issues of complex watershed behavior and management. And, building on its success, the University of Virginia researchers decided to investigate the underlying simulation model — highly aggregated in the game — and develop a much more detailed, simulation-only model. However, it soon became apparent that such a model would require a significant increase in computing capacity to execute.

Learmoth says: “The WCG is the only computing resource that could handle a project of this size. We estimated that it would take some 90 calendar-years to perform these experiments on our university computing grid. In all, we submitted approximately 19,232,000 experiments consuming an average of about 90 minutes of CPU time per experiment. The first experiments had longer run times. Then we fine-tuned the code with IBM's help to accelerate the runtimes. And, as is usually the case with WCG projects, a number of runs needed to be re-run for various reasons. Thus, we are looking at approximately 4,173 years total CPU time donated by WCG members.”

The next step is for the researchers to analyze the results generated during the project. This could take at least 6-12 months, explains Learmoth.
