В http://folding.typepad.com/news/2010/06/update-on-the-v7-client.html прочитал сегодня очень интересную новость.

В первых выпусках не будет всего, о чем просили фолдеры, но значительные изменения будут. Например, интеграция классического, SMP и GPU-клиентов, возможность единого клиента подключать все эти ресурсы (многоядерный ЦП + GPU) одновременно, упрощенный и более надежный GUI, улучшенные и более продвинутые средства для сторонних разработчиков, а со временем и возможность использовать клиент FAH для простого управления несколькими ПК.

Консольная версия седьмого клиента прошла внутреннее тестирование, и мы начинаем ограниченный выпуск альфа-версии. Все еще требуется много доработок, но я рад, что мы сделали такой большой шаг вперед. Если не будут выявлены критические ошибки, надеюсь, что через месяц-другой мы сможем выпустить этот клиент для открытого бета-тестирования.

The current clients might best be described as functional, and the new client is intended to address the usability deficiencies and make contributing much easier. For the developers, the new code is intended to be much easier to maintain and more logical to add to, allowing faster development of further improvements.

As a result it should be easier for the client to be modified to support new client types or methods than it has been with the current clients.

We will keep you updated of any news on this release.

Progress to the v7 client release

There has been a lot of work on v7 behind the scenes. Clearly it's taken longer than we'd like, but I wanted to give an update on where we are. Our lead developer, Joseph Coffland, has been working to add requested features and squash bugs reported by testers. There's been numerous examples of this, so too many for me to detail one by one, but I'm attaching the v7 client change log to give some rough idea of the type of code development tasks that have been going on.

Joe and I think we're close and if 7.1.18 looks good in internal testing, it will likely become the basis of the client released for a public release beta client.

Появились две новые записи в блоге Панде от 14 и 15 марта. В первой говорится о том, что доктора довольны последней версией клиента 7 (7.1.18) и она вполне может стать публичной бета-версией. Во второй - что новое ядро ATI (16) уже вовсю тестится и будет выпущено следом за 7 версией клиента. Но, похоже, наилучшими для счета окажутся 5ххх и выше серии (3ххх не поддерживает OpenCL, 4ххх - не достаточно хорошо). Поддержка же старого ядра (11) планируется до 11 сентября 2011.

ATI/AMD GPU support in FAH, and what awaits with Core 16

The project team is currently working on improved support for AMD and ATI GPUs. Originally, the Brook programming language was used to program on GPUs, but AMD have decided to support just OpenCL and drop all support for Brook. This has meant that the core has had to be completely rewritten to use OpenCL instead of Brook. This was a huge challenge, but that project is now bearing fruit (see the OpenMM site for more information). Because of AMD's decision to abandon support for Brook in favour of OpenCL, future developments of the AMD/ATI core will be made for OpenCL only, and will only run on graphics cards that support OpenCL.

This means that some currently supported cards will drop out of the project, as follows:

HD2xxx and HD3xxx series do not support OpenCL and thus will not be supported once FAHcore 11 is mothballed.
HD4xxx series is able to execute OpenCL code but lacks some hardware features necessary to make the new code run at an efficient speed, and so will also not be supported by the new core.
HD5xxx and HD6xxx series support the full range of necessary OpenCL functions, and will be fully supported by the new core.


In the short term, both FAHcore 11 and FAHcore 16 will be used in parallel so as not to leave people in the lurch. Unfortunately this situation cannot last forever, and support for FAHcore 11 is scheduled to end on September 1st 2011. This date may be postponed, but there is no guarantee that will happen. Stopping support of a platform is obviously never a popular decision, but in this instance the project has been left with little choice due to AMD ending support for the older cards.

The good news is that AMD/ATI is heavily involved in supporting OpenCL and the Pande Group are very excited by the prospects of the new core. This core will be released publicly after the release of the v7 client, which is necessary to run the new core.

Ночью поставил, ну что сказать... Это всего то новая оболочка, ядра все старые(не считая 16ого)... Интересно, а 16ое ядро только для радиков? А то думаю поставить его...

This is a new client, not new FahCores. With the exception of FahCore_16, you'll still get assignments of the same projects and will earn exactly the same PPD.

Бляха. На рабочей машинке успешно крутится SMP, и если мне не врут глаза, то производительность несколько увеличилась. Но вот не могу запустить второй слот для GPU (Geforce 8400GS).
Установил последние драйвера на видео. В факе написано, что GPU не будет фолдить, если клиент запущен как сервис. Ок, переконфигурил из сервисов в обычные процессы. И нифига...

Но по прошествии пары дней понял, что мне показалось. TPF остался абсолютно такой-же, ни секундой больше/меньше.

По поводу ГПУ: машинка рабочая, общая стабильность критична, поэтому не гнался ни проц, ни видюха.

А что там факать то? Вроде всё с пол-пинка заводится. Хотя может я уже предвзято отношусь после многих часов гугления и настроек консольных клиентов.

  Установка и настройка универсального клиента Folding@Home v7!



Эволюция:
Наконец-то клиент для фолдинга стал удобным в использовании и настройке. В историю уходят многочисленные версии клиентов и такое же разнообразие настроек под них. Теперь, вне зависимости на чем вы собираетесь считать фолдинг(процессором или видеокартой), вне зависимости какой у вас процессор или какая видеокарта, 7ой клиент задействует все мощности вашего компьютера.

Начнем с установки:

Для начала скачиваем клиент, поддерживаются все виды ОС.
Страница загрузки(текущая версия 7.3.6):

Запускаем инсталлятор



Принимаем лицензионное соглашение



Выбираем Custom install для доступа к расширенным настройкам



Выбираем установить только для одного пользователя или для всех.


Выбираем папку для установки клиента на свой вкус



Здесь указываем папку, в которой будут находиться задания (WU)



Нажав "Next" видим предупреждение о том, что если папка c заданиями расположена в папке самого клиента, то она всегда будет удаляться при его деинсталляции. Нажмите ОК.



Важно — выбираем как клиент будет запускаться. Доступны следующие варианты:

1.Automatically start with FAHControl — автоматически запускать fahclient.exe при запуске FAHControl – графического интерфейса, предназначенного для управления клиентом.
2.Automatically start as a console application at login time — запускать fahclient.exe как консольное приложение при входе пользователя в систему. При этом открывается окно консоли и сворачивается в закладку на панели задач. Аналогично поведению консольного клиента 6-й версии.
3.Automatically start as a system service at boot time — запускать fahclient.exe как системную службу при загрузке ОС. ВНИМАНИЕ! Это работает только для SMP и BigAdv. Клиенты для видеокарт не могут запускаться как сервис.
4.Start manually - запускать fahclient.exe вручную.
Чекбокс "Automatically start FAHControl at login time" добавляет FAHControl.еxе в автозапуск для текущего пользователя (или для всех, если выбрана установка "для всех"). Запуск происходит при входе пользователя в систему.


Теперь указываем свои данные

Да, не впечатляет... thumbdown.gif ну это поправимо. Растягиваем окошко, пока в правом верхнем углу не появится выпадающее меню, в котором выбран пункт Novice. Меняем его на Expert

Нажимаем на Configure. Перед нами меню конфигурации клиента. Здесь мы можем добавить счётное ядро или изменить его тип, нам интересен раздел Slots.



По умолчанию ставится смп клиент. Если вы хотите добавить слот гпу, жмем Add



И добавляем гпу слот

На данный момент при наличии гпу Nvidia Fermi(и выше) и AMD(начиная с серии Radeon HD5xxx и новее), в том же окне, в Extra slot options жмем Add и вводим:

Это позволит видеокартам использовать новое http://folding.stanford.edu/home/welcome-to-fahcore-17-2/ которое значительно повышает ппд всех вышеперечисленных видеокарт.


Получение BigAdv (бигжабы): В разделе Slots выбираем smp и жмем Edit. В открышемся окне, в Extra slot options жмем Add и вводим:

На данный момент бж для процессоров актуальны только! для 16ти поточников. Хотя если имеется 12ти поточник...)))



Сохраняем все манипуляции в разделе Slots кнопкой Save.


Все. Готово!


 
Дополнительные ключи для 7ого клиента


Все ключи прописываются в разделе Slots, для каждого слота индивидуально.


После запуска, клиент не начинает считать задания, запуск вручную. Задания стоят на паузе, стартуют кнопкой Fold.

Вот например моей старенькой HD 3870, которая кранчит не в режиме 24/7, а тогда, когда я бываю дома показана такая опция или нет?

pxx, на моей карте задания для 11 ядра считались 5 часов, а для 16 ядра 7.5 часов. У тебя карта со старым набором инструкций OpenCL, но думаю даже так должно считать не больше чем два раза дольше по сравнению с 11м ядром. Срок годности задания 10 дней, таймаут 6 дней (хз зачем оно надо, бонусов то пока нет, но клиент пишет). Т.е. если считать например часов по 8 в день то можно уложится в срок. А КПД на 16 ядрах в 2.5 раза выше.

Нет, новое ядро предназначено для 5ххх серии видеокарт и старше. Все другие серии считают на старом ядре, и то, только до осени..

В 4ххх серии не полная библиотека OpenCL, в 3ей её как бэ нэт. Поэтому только 5 и 6ая серия нормально работают с OpenCL, и только они официально заявлены докторами для работы с этим ядром.

Привет всем! поставил 7 клиент всё как в инструкции smp и gpu на radeon 6850 заработало без каких либо проблем ,но вот обрабатывать на nvidea 240 отказывается наглухо(она стоит во втором слоте,к монетору подключена) ядро закачало но считать отказывается сразу пишет send и качает другое задание и так заданий 6-8 а потом Failed и всё проц и radeon в это время дальше продолжают считать без проблем
ЧТО ДЕЛАТЬ? может кто знает как бороться?
PS windows 7 64 с нуля никакого разгона нет

However, there are some significant problems still outstanding. Most importantly it currently only works on OSX 10.6. There are some likely solvable issues with building applications on 10.6 that will run on 10.5. and 10.4 which may be resolved soon. 10.7 poses a much bigger challenge. Several things in Gtk2.0, the graphics toolkit we use for FAHControl, are badly broken in OSX 10.7. It also appears that Gtk2.0 is no longer being supported very well due to the release of Gtk3.0. Moving to Gtk3.0 is a major undertaking and it's unclear whether that would solve the problems with running on 10.7 anyway.

To sum things up, support for OSX 10.4 and 10.5 should be available soon but it's unclear when we will be able to support FAHControl on 10.7. A console only F@H client should work on 10.7 but that is unlikely to be popular. If you are interested in running F@H on OSX we'd love to have your feedback.

Also, thanks to calxalot, we now have an OSX uninstaller which can be found on the downloads page.

OSX Note: The location of the data files changes in this version. Finish any previous WU before upgrading.

Better Support for New GPUs:
We have implemented a system for supporting new GPUs with out requiring a client upgrade. This is useful for people with new GPUs. We can now add support for GPUs by adding them to a whitelist. The client comes with a built in whitelist which can be updated manually by installing the last GPUs.txt file in your run folder. This will eventually be automated but the current manual system maybe useful to those who want to get the latest and greatest GPUs up and running.

To get new GPUs added to the list make a post in the this forum with the GPU's PCI vendor and device ID requesting the change. Simply editing the GPUs.txt yourself will allow you to setup a GPU slot with an unsupported GPU but the assignment server will not assign a work unit unless it also has a matching GPUs.txt on the server, so you must notify us.

Improved ETA/TPF/PPD Estimation:
The work unit completion time, time per frame and points per day estimations have been much improved. If you notice problems with these please let us know. In general, it should be much better than in previous releases. Ticket #828 describes a known but low-priority problem.

Conclusion:
If all goes well we will publish this release to the front page. If you think there are any compelling reasons not to do so please let us know but please keep in mind that we are currently in a feature freeze.

Хотел уточнить, клиент v7 он стал как бы многофункцианальным то есть включает в себя клиент для SMP (один клиент на все ядра проца?) и GPU (для видеокарт ATI только с 5ххх?) мониторинг данных (FahSpy) ну одним словом «всё в одном»??? Правильно понимаю? Больше нечего дополнительного софта ненужно ставить чтоб «нормально» считать? Только один клиент v7?
Еще такой вопрос BigAdv (бигжабы) на 6 ядерном нормально считать? разница жаб от обычных это количество только очков и по времени?
И можно ли как-то при работе клиента уменьшить нагрузку на проц…а то включаю и все 6 ядер 100% в Core Temp отображает… Заранее благодарен.

Возник вопрос: как поставить и управлять 7 клиентов в linux консоли? без гуи совсем. 6 был консольный изначально, там это легко было сделать.

Под линукс идет 3 пакета, клиент, контрол, вьювер. Как управлять клиентом без контрола не смог разобратся, контрол хочет X. На форуме сходу не смог найти решения. Поставил 6 версию. Она еще мейнстрим.

Поправка, на данный момент существует уже версия 7.3.4 - вышла 10ого числа. Вся ветка 7.3.х является публичной бетой. Ченжлог там впечатляет.
Неделю назад не удержался поставил 7.3.2, день привыкнуть не мог, сейчас уже как то и не хочется на 7.2.9 откатываться))) Все что не делается - все к лучшему bq.gif

Користуюсь версією 7.3.6 вже пару місяців. Без проблем, як для чисто CPU фолдінгу, так і для комбінованого з GPU. Нарешті, після багатьох років можна забути про command-line клієнти. Все просто працює smile.gif

Есть одна проблемка:

Мы получили сообщения участников об ошибке в вычислении PPD последней версии клиента v7.4.0. После проверки кода, мы обнаружили, что в v7.3.11 при расчете бонуса использовался неправильный дедлайн. Ошибку пофиксили в исходниках, исправление выйдет в следующем обновлении.

Для нового F@H client V7 ничего доустанавливать не нужно он сам всю инфу показывает. Единстенное условие, когда заморачиваются с логами 7 клиента - это при необходимости выложить статистику по WU в общепринятом формате. Но тогда надо идти путем Лог 7 клиента -> ЛогКонвертер -> FahSpy ...
FahMon - утилита для контоля F@H client V6.

Панове, наступне питання - скопіював незакінчене завдання із іншого комп'ютера, у папку із завданнями на свій основний комп'ютер, рахувалось під моїм ніком та пасскеєм. Чи візьметься скопійоване завдання коли закінчиться поточне ?

Всем привет! Да прибудет мир в Украинской земле! Официально вышел клиент 7.4.4, думаю поставить. Подскажите, как лучше - сохранять данные (конфиги), или полностью обновляться? Стоит ли бояться нестыковок настроек, слотов при сохранении?

Спасибо, заработало поверх. Кстати, новое в этом клиенте - если есть слот GPU, то для него отводится один процессор (по умолчанию). У кого в CPU работало 2 ядра - с обновой станет 1. Я сначала подумал глюк, но это норм. Про это можно найти здесь: https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/FAHClient/wiki/FahControl
Вернуть все процессоры можно самому, как я понял. Просто теперь в параметре CPUs количество -1 можно понимать буквально wink.gif

Привіт всім drinks2.gif , давно не був тут.

Хоч не про 7-й клієнтт, але, імхо, вигідний варіант від самого Google (до того ж для всіх платформ, відкритий код і т.д.)
Хто рахує на проці прості задачі рекомендую рахувати http://forums.overclockers.ru/viewtopic.php?p=11737477#p11737477 (№2981). Обговорення на форумі TSC Russia http://forums.overclockers.ru/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=505508. Все просто - ставите Chrome, качаєте додаток (тре акаунт googla) або напряму по http://folding.stanford.edu/nacl/ заходите і вписуєте свої дані (тоді тре в браузері параметр виставити - скопіюйте в адресну стрічку сhrome://flags/#enable-nacl , нажміть ентер і далі кнопку Включить, перезавантажте браузер).
Переваги значні:
1. Задачі 2981 дууууже короткі - 4-ядерний Core чи Athlon здає за 7-8 хвилин
2. відносно задач 7-го клієнта ППД зростає в 1,5-3 рази

Увага. По замовчуванню повзунок Folding Power, який регулює завантаження проца, в положенні Medium грузить проц лише на 50%

Щоб працювало постійно без браузера, можливо, достатньо в настройках Chrome виставити "Продолжать работу приложений в фоновом режиме после закрытия Google Chrome"

на Intel Core i7-3930K по сравнению с Intel Core i7-4770 разницы нет, хотя все ядра/потоки загружены на 100%.

Имеет ли смысл на этом проце виртуалку с linux ставит (гипервизор Hyper-V) вместо Web-клиента?

cadet-ua, по-моему в браузере бОльший оверхед, чем в отдельной виртуалке. Я би делал виртуалку, если би предполагалась длительная работа фолдинга

Соглласен, но браузер грузит систему и ставит нормальній приоритет, остальные программы начинают сттрадать. Лучше сейчас ставить последнюю версию клиента, она ставить приоритет минимальный.
