Для присоединения к команде Украины:
1. Загрузите BOINC менеджер (Если его у Вас еще нет!)
2. Перейдите в "расширенный вид"
3. Выберите сервис ---> добавить проект
4. Введите адрес проекта http://dnahome.cs.rpi.edu/dna/
5. Введите свои регистрационные данные.
6. Найдите нашу команду. Она называется Ukraine и адрес ее статистики вы могли видеть выше.
7. Если есть доступные для загрузки задания Вы их получите и начнете расчеты.

Полезная информация:
Для идентификации пользователя в BOINC могут служить 2 вещи:
1) пара e-mail/пароль
2) межпроектный идентификационный ID (Cross-project ID) - 32значное шестнадцатиричное число.

Если Вы пожелаете подключится ещё и к другому BOINC-проекту, то помните: чтобы не плодить новых аккаунтов при подключении к новому проекту или команде, нужно обязательно везде регистрироваться с одним и тем же Именем и EMAIL. если при регистрации в проекте указать другой e-mail , BOINC создаст новый аккаунт с тем же именем! В этом случае рекомендуется зайти во все ваши аккаунты и во все проекты и где надо поменять емейл на нужный. Через некоторое время ваши аккаунты сольются в один с одним cross-project-id.

О проекте:
The goal of DNA@Home is to discover what regulates the genes in DNA. Ever notice that skin cells are different from a muscle cells, which are different from a bone cells, even though every cell in your body has every gene in your genome? That's because not all genes are "on" all the time. Depending on the cell type and what the cell is trying to do at any given moment, only a subset of the genes are used, and the remainder are shut off. DNA@home uses statistical algorithms to unlock the key to this differential regulation, using your volunteered computers.
The primary means by which genes are regulated is at the stage of "transcription" where a molecule called a polymerase reads along the DNA from the start of the gene to the end of the gene creating an RNA messenger. Other molecules, called transcription factors, bind to the DNA near the beginning of the gene and can help to recruit the polymerase or they can get in the way of, or inhibit, the polymerase. It is the presence or absence of the binding of these transcription factors that determine whether a gene is "on" or "off" but, for the most part, scientists do not know which transcription factors are responsible for regulating which genes.



Transcription factors have "fingers" that prefer a certain short, sloppy pattern in the nucleotides "letters" of a DNA sequence, but in many cases we don't know what these patterns are. Our software looks for short sequences of nucleotides that appear more-or-less the same near multiple gene beginnings and which also appear more-or-less the same in the corresponding locations in the genomes of related species. As DNA sequences are huge, ranging from millions to billions of nucleotides, and these sequences are short and only approximately conserved from one site to the next, this is a real needle-in-the-haystack problem and requires lots of computational power. We hope that your computers can help.

Our current plans involve tackling the Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome to thoroughly understand how tuberculosis accomplishes what it does -- so that others can use that information to stop this disease that kills millions every year. We also plan to tackle Yersinia pestis, the cause of bubonic plague.

Work flowing again! -- 24 Aug 2011
Finally, we have some new workunits for you guys to crunch. I'm hoping to make some changes in the next few weeks that will get a much more steady flow of workunits out to everyone.

So I've landed at the University of North Dakota, so I actually have a bit of time to get back to work here. Hoping to have some new workunits out within a week or so for everyone!

Updates next week and some more work units -- for real. I've been very busy getting ready to move to University of North Dakota for my new position as assistant professor. And don't worry, we'll still be working on the project with me there!

status update -- 1 Jun 2011
Just had a long meeting today -- I think we've come up with a strategy for making workunits available in a more consistent manner. Should be updating the server code this week, and then expect a bunch of workunits.

wrong application versions update -- 15 May 2011
So I think the problem with clients getting the wrong application versions should be fixed. We had the wrong name for the flag in our config.xml file. Let me know if this is working correctly.

It also looks like the validator crashed over the weekend, I fixed the bug that caused it so thing should be running smoothly again.

Started some more workunits
Have three more sets of workunits, so there should be more work available for awhile. I'm still working on updating the application, so maybe in the next couple weeks I'll get that out, which will make the stream of work much more steady. 13 Sep 2011 | 18:59:14 UTC

DNA@Home: more workunits (to test checkpointing)
from BOINC projects news headlines
2012-03-20: I made another batch of workunits to test the checkpointing -- locally everything looks like I'm getting the same results starting from a checkpoint and not starting from a checkpoint. I also increased the deadline for these to 4 days, so hopefully they'll play nicer with other projects. If you see any issues with these not being validated correctly let me know.

2012-03-25: I've made more workunits and updated the applications. Hopefully this should fix the checkpointing issue. I've also compiled the 64 bit linux applications statically (i hope -- it's a royal pain). So hopefully that will fix some of the errors some users were getting. Let me know how they work out.

DNA@Home: some updates


2012-04-11: Hi Everyone, The last couple weeks have been hectic! I was off in NY to give a presentation at IBM T.J. Watson Research center. Now that I'm back I have a few more updates for everyone. First, I've made a portal on the front page of this volunteer computing server with links to the other projects we'll be running here: http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/index.html Notably, SubsetSum@Home and Wildlife@Home. We're starting to get video for wildlife@home, which should prove really interesting so it might be worth taking a look at that project over there. I'll also be starting to send out workunits for SubsetSum@Home by the end of the week (as we have a deadline for a conference and would like to have the project running by then). After SubsetSum@Home is up and sending out workunits, I'll be updating the client application here (to fix the checkpointing issue) and sending out some more workunits. Until then, hopefully the videos we'll be putting up on wildlife@home will keep you interested, and the workunits at subsetsum@home will keep your computers busy. smile.gif --Travis
