HCC1 GPU Testing - Round 4
We have started another round of beta testing. We are looking for more data on video cards that can return results successfully. While this is running, we are working on understanding why some results aren't matching.

Beta Test GPU for Help Conquer Cancer v 6.45
We have received a new version of the code for the ATI gpu version. It ran clean in our testing so we are ready for another round of beta testing. We are looking to see if this significantly reduces the number of invalid results that we have been seeing during previous rounds of testing.

Workunits will be available shortly.

In this round we are only testing GPU versions (NVIDIA and ATI).

This test was run only on the GPU - no CPU. Here is a summary of the test outcomes. The invalid issue has definitely been addressed. We are looking at the errors. Exit 293 is the error when BOINC fails to put the intended GPU # onto the command line. We are not going to be able to do anything about that one. We are looking currently at the other two major errors.

HCC GPU Beta (July 9, 2012) - Started! koc.gif

We have started another round of beta testing for Help Conquer Cancer GPU.

In this round we have changed the following:

Fixes to how we identify which GPU the app should run on
Change to require 1 CPU in addition to the GPU (this causes the client to run the app at IDLE priority class rather than NORMAL)
Research application fixes (there were a couple of cases that had errors, this version fixes that)

Нет, пока выхлопом и не пахнет. Как было около 400Тфлопс, так и есть.
Но думаю с запуском гпу поднимется к 1Пфлопсу как минимум. Кто даст больше? smile.gif

Quick update. We have completed an alpha test of some server logic and the version of the GPU application that the researchers have approved. We are ready to conduct a beta test but the work this week on the filesystem issue has taken our time this week and we have not been able to get the next beta started. We should be able to move forward with this soon.

Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.49
With the resolution of some of our environment issues, we are now able to start another round of beta testing for Help Conquer Cancer GPU.

In this round we are looking at certain types of errors and in particular why the target device id appears not to be passed on the command line of the research application in some cases.

We have split the plan classes into four plan classes:

1) Those computers who are on a version of BOINC that allows them to report that they can run an OpenCL application. (both ATI and NVIDIA)

2) Those computers who are on a version of BOINC that does not allow them to report that they can run an OpenCL application (both ATI and NVIDIA)

Please note that this simply refers to the ability of the BOINC version to be able to read the driver attribute that reflects this capability.

We are also including additional information in the stderr reported back to the server to help us understand some of the errors that we are seeing.

A big Thank You to the members who sent in information over the last 2 days. We have found the bug that was causing the exit 293 error as well as causing the very large download of workunits for other applications (https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33754). Due to the information we got we were able to narrow down and find the issue. We have released an update to the scheduling code that resolves this issue. We have some more testing we need to do on the app in order to go to production with it but we are now a lot closer!

Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.50
We are starting a new round of beta testing. This round is to accomplish three goals:

1) We have broaden the types of graphics card that will be able to download work. We are using this to confirm which cards should be allowed to receive work when we go to production.

2) We are confirming that the server change we made last week works as expected.

3) We are looking for other issues that we might have missed in previous rounds due to the bigger issues we were looking at.

We are able to reproduce the hang at the end of the workunit in alpha thanks to all the feedback here. We are pretty sure that the issue lies in the BOINC API or our wrapper code for the research code. We have gone through 2 additional versions in alpha this week and we hope to fix it soon. Given the large number of errors associated with this issue we want to fix it before launch. We are getting very close though! koc.gif

Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.55
We were able to identify the issue that was causing the workunits to get hung at the end of the workunit. We have implemented a fix that we believe will resolve the issue and that worked in the test cases we ran in alpha testing. Due to the fix residing in the BOINC API layer that handles communications from the core client to the research application, we are discussing what we did with the BOINC development team. This round of beta testing will give us some good insight into the behavior at large scale.

Please note that there is a natural 30 second - 3 minute span at the end of each workunit where the % complete does not increment. This is not the hang. It is only if it has been stuck at this spot for > 10 minutes that you can consider it hung.

Please note that the GPU option should be fixed now and the option to choose whether to run GPU work all the time or only when you are not using your computer are now available.

The beta test 6.55 ran well, but upon discussions with Berkeley there is a slightly different implementation of the fix for the hung workunits. This test is to check that version of the fix.

There were a couple of reports of hung workunits in the 6.55 test so we are hoping that this improved fix will avoid even those.

Greetings,

We will be doing a new Beta test later today for multiple images in a single work unit. This will be a two part test.

1. Test a regular batch of 1536 work units in their current state ( 1 image ). This will test the new version of the code still works and the new assimilators/validators work.

2. Test 5 batches of 768 work units. So 2 images per work unit. 3840 total work units.

These two tests will make sure that we can just change out the science app without having to stop the project.

This version will be 7.05.

HCC1 Beta Test for Linux GPU

We are releasing a batch of work units for beta test on Linux GPU only. This will include 64 bit ATI and NVIDIA as well as 32 bit ATI and NVIDIA.

There will be 5 batches released with a total of 3840 work units sent with a quorum of 2. These will have double images in them similar to how they are being run on production right now.
