(Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong area, as I had to use a translation program which caused some difficulties in my understanding the forum setup.)

I have run the SLinCA@home project for a few months. The project news on the main site page was several months old in regards to errors occurring, so thought I should address my problem to find out if this is a new issue or a continuation of the old one. The older work units that would not complete correctly, I believe I received credit for them, at least on some, maybe.

Since those older work units, I have been continuing to run the current available work units but have not received any project credits since May 2011. I currently get the error of "Computation error" on the Tasks tab and within the Messages tab, it states, "SLinCA@Home Computation for task ... ## ... finished", so I believe they are completing. I would prefer if I could run the work units without errors, but I do not know how to fix this issue. If they are not helping your project I will temporarily suspend this project, until the issue is resolved, as there is no need to waste processing time that I could use on other BOINC projects.
With these errors occurring on all work units, do they still benefit the project when I run them? (If yes, I will keep this project on my active list.)
Do you know when the work units will start to complete without errors?
If this is an internal problem to my machine, do you have any suggestions of how I might fix my system so the error will not continue?
My user information for SLinCA is userid=1911, beastman.

I have two computers I run this project on. Both have had errors. My computer information & a couple of the work unit details are:
Computer Detail #01:
Task ID #415311
Work unit #241777 for Task #415311
Task ID #415012
Work unit #242294 for Task #415012
Task ID #366739
Work unit #228392 for Task #366739
Computer Detail #02:
Task ID #357868
Work unit #223761 for Task #357868

I run the BOINC manager version 6.10.18, and I would prefer not to upgrade the manager to a more recent version as I did not care for the new look and had some other issues with how it runs. I did try it for a few weeks but it was not what I wanted, so I have returned to the earlier version.
Does the version of the BOINC manager application impact on work unit processing and cause these performance errors?
...or are they internal to the SLinCA project?

Regarding an unrelated issue, do you expect Checkpointing to be added to your project work units, and if yes, how soon?

Any assistance as to how I should handle this situation would be greatly appreciated. If you need more specific information to track this problem, please let me know.

Thank you for all your assistance and help.

All the best & Happy BOINCing!

Please update the main site page for SLinCA@Home. The last 'News' statement was from May 27, 2011. The last post regarding the workunits that fail on Windows machines, was April 22, 2011, though it wasn't very specific except to say it was on test files and that '...it is important for us to find and fix errors sooner...'.

My earlier post within the message board, posted July 2nd, never got a response either.

I understand there can be problems with workunits and that even failures can help so future units will work - but this will only happen if there is some form of communication. I understand you can't respond to every person that posts or requests information, yet since it seems all Windows machines fail currently, could you please update the 'News' section on the main project page, so at least the project participants have an idea if the project should be set to active status or not.

This will also help in the future, once project workunits are ready to be tested again, all you need to do is update the 'News' section, and we (the participants) would know to allow new tasks to start.

Thanks

I agree with you "don't have this", the project started very well with frequent new applications and admins active on forum, but now no news, my bug report on 6th July didn't get any answer neither.

I can understand that SLINCA's researchers may have gone on vacations and its their right! but at least before leaving office they could have just written it down somewhere...

Dear Beastman,

thanks for your information and care - we will update 'News'-section on Web-site with respect to your very useful advices and comments!
Unfortunately there are no progress with stable ZIPping results for Windows tasks at the moment
(despite that some PCs and our own PCs with Windows XP crunch them satisfactorily - but we do not know reasons for failures at the moment).
Beg your pardon, because of business trips, vacation period and no time-resources for re-design of application. IR.gif
We will inform about progress in the news section of web-site, but NOT eaarlier than in August.

Thanks for your (and others') persistance and care!
