Projects 1164-1168

Shown above is the large subunit of the ribosome. The ribosome is the macromolecular complex that is responsible for assembling amino acids into proteins. This subunit has a long tunnel from which the nascent peptide chain emerges. Here we are studying the physical properties of water inside the tunnel. This is the same system as projects 1140-1144 and 1149-1150 that simulated an alpha helix inside the tunnel.
